Join the IOSP Board
What IOSP does
The Itasca Orchestra & Strings Program brings live orchestral music and string education to the Northland. Our two main programs, the Itasca Symphony Orchestra and an El Sistema-inspired youth strings program serve students across Grand Rapids, Coleraine, Deer River, Bigfork, and Remer. Our work rests on two commitments: that everyone in our region deserves access to great music, and that every child who wants to play should have the chance, regardless of family income.
What Board Members do
IOSP board members are active stewards of the organization, not honorary names on a letterhead. Service includes:
Time: Attend monthly board meetings — roughly 2-3 hours per month including committee work.
Treasure: Help raise funds through your network.
Talent: Lend your professional skills, finance, fundraising, legal, marketing, education, or community connections.
Fiduciary duty: Come prepared, ask informed questions, and put IOSP's interests first to help us make the best decisions to serve our community.
Who we're looking for
Fundraising connections, relationships across regional philanthropy, family foundations, or the Iron Range business community, and a willingness to open doors and make introductions.
Legal expertise, an attorney able to lend guidance on contracts, employment, or nonprofit governance.
Business or operations leadership, experience running a budget, organization, or team, with an eye toward sustainability and sound systems.
Marketing and communications, background in marketing, PR, regional media, or digital strategy.
Grant and institutional funding, experience writing or reviewing grants, or working with community foundations.
That said, if you're passionate about music education in the Northland and bring something not on this list, we want to hear from you.
